Amedzofe Walkway Accident: GTA Assures Public as Investigations Begin

On December 7, 2025, the Amedzofe Canopy Walkway in the Volta Region collapsed, leaving several tourists with minor injuries. Because of this, the popular tourist site has been closed for now.

The collapse happened near one of the small exit pillars, causing part of the walkway to give way. The injured tourists were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Thankfully, no deaths were recorded.

Investigations are currently underway to find out what caused the structure to fail.

Meanwhile, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has visited the victims and shared a statement about the incident.

“the management of the facility said, no deaths were recorded, though some visitors sustained injuries”.

“GTA is deeply concerned about the incident and is closely monitoring the ongoing investigations being conducted by the relevant authorities. The Authority will communicate the findings and next steps once the investigations are completed”, it added.

“Our thoughts are with every victim and every family affected by this unfortunate incident. Tourism must be safe and dependable, and we are committed to ensuring that all safety lapses — if any — are fully addressed. Your wellbeing matters to us,” she said.

“The GTA remains dedicated to strengthening safety standards across tourism attractions nationwide and will continue to work with all stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s tourism experience,” she stressed.
