Ghana’s Tourist Surge No Accident, GTA Made It Happen — Abeiku Santana

Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Deputy CEO in charge of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), says the Authority has shown great courage and commitment in promoting Ghana across the world, including the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, and many other countries.

Speaking in an interview with Jerry Justice on Adom 106.3 FM, Hon. Abeiku Santana explained that the increase in international visitors arriving in Ghana is largely due to the deliberate promotional efforts of the GTA and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

According to him, “When you see the guests coming to Ghana, it’s because the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ministry traveled to promote Ghana to organized groups. We don’t only encourage them to visit places like the Cape Coast Castle, we also engage them on business and investment opportunities. The GIPC has created avenues across the regions: the Volta Region, the Northern Region, each with its own unique investment potential.

“When we travel, we go with all this information, and we present it to them. Tourism is not just leisure and entertainment; investment is a major part of it. Today, more than forty airlines fly to Ghana. Do you think they would keep coming if the guests weren’t interested?” he asked the host.

He added that the busy scenes at the airport, especially in the evenings, are proof that tourist arrivals continue to grow. “Tourism is booming. Many young people are now working as tour guides or running travel and tour companies, car rentals, Airbnbs, hotels, and apartment businesses. This growth is driven by the rising demand for Destination Ghana. And where do you think people heard about Ghana? It’s the result of the marketing and promotional activities undertaken by the GTA. We are focusing on two major markets, domestic and international.”
