Palestinian solo traveler and TikTok content creator, Waleed Maoed, has shared a mouthwatering video compilation of all the foods he enjoyed during his visit to Ghana, giving fans a tasty glimpse into the country’s rich culinary culture.
In the video, Waleed takes viewers through his food journey, starting with kelewele, one of Ghana’s most popular street snacks. Made from ripe plantains tossed in flavorful spices, he described it as delicious and even better when paired with peanuts.
He also tried asaana, a sweet and refreshing traditional drink commonly sold in local markets. According to Waleed, the fermented corn-based beverage is perfect for hot weather. Another drink that stood out for him was fresh coconut water, which he said is widely available and something he enjoyed several times throughout his stay.
Moving on to main meals, Waleed highlighted waakye, a classic Ghanaian dish made from rice and beans cooked together and served with a variety of sides such as spaghetti, fried plantains, eggs, and meat. He noted that waakye began as an affordable everyday meal in northern Ghana but is now a staple found on streets across the country.
No food tour of Ghana would be complete without jollof rice, and Waleed made sure to give it special mention. Cooked in a rich tomato and pepper sauce, Ghanaian jollof quickly became one of his favorite rice dishes in the world.
Overall, Waleed described Ghanaian food as flavorful, spicy, and incredibly satisfying. He encouraged anyone who has not yet tried Ghanaian cuisine to seek out a local Ghanaian restaurant or, better yet, book a trip to Ghana and experience it firsthand.
