Stakeholders in Ghana’s tourism and travel industry are calling for increased funding and modernization to sustain growth and meet rising demand.
Speaking at a recent industry engagement, representatives from ASCA and its local partner Amados underscored the need for investment in technology, infrastructure, and knowledge-sharing to support the sector’s continued expansion.
“In our industry, there’s a heavy reliance on technological systems,” a stakeholder explained. “Currently, ASCA operates about 28 flights into Accra each week. That means nearly four flights land in Accra every single day, the highest number after our main hub in Togo.”
ASCA, in partnership with Amados, now connects Accra to over 30 cities across Central and West Africa, with routes extending to Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Angola.
“When you look at the two brands, Amados and ASCA, they are fast becoming the biggest travel industry players in Ghana. Our goal is to provide knowledge and support for all participants in the tourism value chain. This is not just about saving costs, but also about increasing revenue through efficiency and innovation.”
With Ghana witnessing increased tourist arrivals, stakeholders stress that the industry must evolve to meet the expectations of modern travelers.
“A lot of people are coming into the country now. So what must we do? We need to be prepared. We can’t keep relying on traditional methods of booking flights and hotels,” the speaker said.
This is one of the reasons ASCA and Amadeus have partnered to offer advanced tools and training to industry players.
“We are committed to equipping the industry with the right knowledge and digital solutions. This is how we can deliver a world-class experience and remain competitive. And we plan to continue these initiatives year after year.”
The call for more funding, particularly in digital transformation and capacity building, comes at a time when Ghana is positioning itself as a leading destination in West Africa. Stakeholders believe that sustained investment and collaboration between the public and private sectors are key to unlocking the full potential of the country’s tourism sector.
